Designers find inspiration in a myriad of ways. Diane von Furstenberg, with her camera in hand, takes a nature walk and snaps random photos of beautiful objects. Marc Jacobs and Anna Sui, in a fashion that’s similar to mine, hits up flea markets and vintage boutiques.
I worked for a designer, who would go dumpster diving for inspiration. She would ransack the dumpsters of major design houses, rundown sweatshops and factories, and schools to select the best of the unfinished and discarded projects to bring home. I’m not sure I even know all the right places to go.. but I guess it wouldn’t be a bad idea to hang onto an old swatch or two from my past to work on later.
