Linked Cable, Seed Cable, and Fisherman's Rib

I was asked to create a series of swatches, which included a fisherman’s rib swatch in a 4-ply bulky weight yarn, a 8-stitch seed cable in chunky baby alpaca yarn, and elaborate linked cable in Lana Grossa’s Chiara. The 4-ply chunky yarn was made by holding four different yarns together - three of them which were actual knitting yarns and the other two were the kind of yarn that one would use to make jewelry. I must say these jewelry yarns - the thin silver and the bronze yarn - did add a unique touch to the overall piece, though they weren’t very suitable for knitting and extremely difficult to work with. One of the jewelry yarns kept getting tangled and because the yarn wasn’t designed for knitting, it was impossible to get the knots out.

The linked cable in the Chiara turned out the best out. It never crossed my mind to 1) double-strand the Chiara yarn and 2) and when you knit cables with it, it almost looks like a wrinkled piece of parchment paper… but in a very very cool way. This yarn makes everything look artsy chic. My only concern with it is that since it’s such a thin and delicate yarn, ripping anything you’ve made in this yarn or to go back and fixed a twisted stitch is very challenging. The stitches clump together as if they’ve been joined with crazy glue. It’s actually the mohair on this yarn that makes it so difficult to rip apart once knit, not the crazy glue. Just so you know.
